Brendan and I were elected years ago to represent Battersea. I was in a total pickle before we went as I thought I was going to get a job that would clash with Conference and I would be letting everyone down if I couldn't go. I'll never forget how sensible and calm Brendan was - I know - not the first words that spring to mind when thinking of Brendan - but he really was. And completely sensitive to my flapping about and being anxious. He just settled me down and talked me through everything and, most of all, made me laugh. In the end we both went and had a brilliant time. I couldn't have wished for a better comrade and friend. Brendan, I will miss you around the Hill and at Churchills.
